// Definition
An indicator is a calculation based on price or volume, drawn on the chart to help read momentum, trend or volatility.
Explained simply
Common indicators include moving averages, RSI, MACD and Bollinger Bands. They are all calculated from past price data, so they describe what has happened rather than predicting what comes next.
Indicators work best as a second opinion on price action, not as a replacement for reading the chart.
Tip
Using fewer indicators, and understanding them well, usually beats piling five on the same chart.
For education only, not financial advice. Trading is risky and you can lose money.
