A normal candlestick only shows four prices: open, high, low and close. A footprint chart (also called an order flow chart or bid/ask chart) opens the candle up. Every candle is split into price rows, and each row shows two numbers: the volume sold at the bid on the left and the volume bought at the ask on the right. That tells you who was aggressive at each price, and whether a move had real buying or selling behind it.
Professional futures traders have used footprint charts for years through paid tools. On TradingGain you get the same view for Bitcoin and other crypto for free, built from live Binance futures trades.
How to read the footprint chart
A simple way to use it
1. Start with the context. Mark the key support and resistance on the 1-hour chart first. Footprint is best for timing entries at levels you already trust.
2. Watch the reaction at the level. At support, look for sellers being absorbed, delta turning positive or a stacked buy imbalance. At resistance, look for the opposite.
3. Use the 🧠 Read box. It sums up the last candles in plain words and gives a simple long and short trigger price. Treat it as a second opinion, not a signal on its own.
4. Keep risk small. Put the stop-loss beyond the absorption or imbalance zone. If price breaks through it with strong delta, the idea is wrong.

FAQ
Is this footprint chart free?
Yes. The TradingGain footprint chart is free to use in your browser, with no sign-up. It uses live Binance futures trades.
What is a footprint chart?
A footprint chart splits every candle into price rows and shows how much was bought at the ask and sold at the bid at each price. It shows who was aggressive inside the candle, not just where price opened and closed.
What is delta in a footprint chart?
Delta is buy volume minus sell volume. Positive delta means aggressive buyers were stronger in that candle; negative delta means aggressive sellers were stronger.
Which timeframe is best for footprint charts?
Most crypto order flow traders use the 1-minute to 15-minute charts for entries and the 1-hour chart for context. Higher timeframes have more rows, so zoom in with the Rows buttons.
What does the ≈ sign on a candle mean?
Older candles marked with ≈ are estimated from lower-timeframe data, because the full trade history is very large. The newest candles are built from exact trades.
What is the difference between a footprint chart and volume profile?
Volume profile shows total volume at each price over a range. A footprint chart shows the same idea inside every single candle and also separates buyers from sellers.
